Nora and Blair

Balinbrae Westies are healthy, sound, outgoing Westies with excellent temperaments. (Pic is of Nora and Blair as a puppy).

About Nora Balin-Stone

My love for the West Highland White Terrier breed began in 1969 when I received my first Westie named “Trouble”. I've always liked terriers, I had Scotties and Cairn's, but when I got my first Westie, it was all over–I fell in love with the breed.

My first show puppy, Maggie was sold to me by Barb Krotts of Bar-Dan Westies in Bellbrook, Ohio. Barb became my mentor and helped me achieve my life long dream of showing dogs. To date, I have finished twenty-eight champions. Hopefully, there will be many more to come. My greatest joy is a new puppy, and the challenge and hope that comes with improving the breed.

In Memory of Shanna...

Shanna

Ch. Bar-Dan's Shoshanna O' Balinbrae: 1/13/97 - 7/17/08

Beloved pet of Sherwin & Bobby Bash. Shanna was loved very much and will missed by all of us, and most of all, by her twin sister Maya.

Ruffian Swallows Bee! Everyone Okay.

6/21/08 Desert Hills-Summer began today at Balinbrae Ranch with the usual running around the pool and barking up a storm. The Balinbrae Westies were enjoying the first day of the Big Heat, when suddenly Ruffian, of Ask Ruffian, came into the house for a drink of water. He began coughing quite a bit and suddenly ejected what appeared to bee a small dark object. Upon closer inspection by Nora, it was discovered that the small dark object was ALIVE! and buzzing. Ruffian had swallowed a bee!

When asked what just happened, Ruffy simply said "An empty house is better than a bad tenant."

He then proceeded to lick the floor for a few minutes. Apparently, Ruff got a little reminder in his tummy that bees don't appreciate being swallowed in mid flight. They have work to do, and furthermore, there are reports that some bees are disappearing. Ruffian says he has "nothing to do with this." The bee dried itself quickly, and took off. Ruffian is fine, now, and will return to his column in the next week.

Apparently, there's been a lot of drama occuring lately at Balinbrae Ranch. Thank goodness everyone's okay.
